While a stiff methodical playing keeps the recorded examples of Ansorge's playing rather earth-bound, it is for his polish, precision and desire for clarity that his playing can be appreciated. Ansorge was better known as a teacher than interpreter, and one can find his preparation by Liszt behind the Chopin/Liszt Glanes de Woronice and singing tone in his discs of two Schumann Romances, from Op.28. Ansorge was based in Berlin and influenced many younger pianists such as Erdmann and Backhaus
